Thermal energy

Thermal energy is that which gives off heat, generally, from nature (geothermal energy), by friction between two materials, by a nuclear fission process, through the combustion of fossil fuels (wood, oil, coal or natural gas) although it can also be a waste from other processes. The generated heat can be used to start engines, generate electrical energy or for heating. Since there is combustion of material to generate heat energy, thermal energy usually involves an environmental impact due to the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere.
