This energy system is responsible for distributing hot water through kilometers of buried pipes, connecting iconic locations such as the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Inter-Center Library without users noticing any difference in their daily comfort.

To prevent the system from crashing in case of any supply disruption, silos have been installed with the capacity to ensure everything operates at full capacity during more than fifteen days of autonomy In short, it's a way to ensure that, even during the harshest winters in Lugo, there is no lack of heating in the classrooms or in the Bal y Gay residence, while also eliminating the risks of having flammable fuels inside educational buildings.

Environmental impact and benefits for the Galician economy

What is most striking about this project is the drastic reduction in the carbon footprint, since it is expected to prevent the release of more than two million kilograms of CO2 to the atmosphere each year. It's a somewhat staggering figure, but it means that almost all the emissions previously generated by campus heating will simply disappear thanks to the use of wood chips.
