Zapotecas Hill, one of the main green spaces in the San Pedro Cholula region, has once again been the site of a new environmental initiative. Mayor Tonantzin Fernández led the fifteenth reforestation effort undertaken by her administration in this natural area, with the goal of halting ecosystem degradation and restoring some of its former splendor.
During the activity, which involved municipal workers and volunteer residents, more than 200 native trees , such as the holm oak, were planted. These species were chosen for their perfect adaptation to the area's climate and soil. The mayor emphasized that this work is not an isolated event, but rather part of an ongoing strategy to protect the environment and improve the quality of life for residents.
A commitment that goes beyond planting
The city councilor emphasized that her team's environmental management is not limited to reforestation. Simultaneously, they are promoting recycling campaigns, waste separation initiatives, and the cleaning of public spaces to foster a civic culture of prevention and care. These actions, she explained, aim for a sustainable impact that benefits both nature and the people who enjoy the hill and its surroundings.

Institutional coordination has also been key. The mayor mentioned the collaboration with the state and federal governments, led by Alejandro Armenta and Claudia Sheinbaum, respectively. This support allows local initiatives to have a greater reach and align with national environmental conservation policies.
Announcement of a mega-event
One of the most anticipated announcements was the confirmation of a massive reforestation effort on Zapotecas Hill, scheduled to take place in the coming days. Fernández explained that this large-scale initiative aims to accelerate the restoration of green areas and reinforce the hill's role as a carbon sink and oxygen producer for the region.

The mayor emphasized that these actions represent an investment in the future , as they contribute to restoring damaged ecosystems and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations. She also expressed her gratitude for the commitment of the volunteers and municipal staff, without whose efforts these achievements would not have been possible.
With this latest initiative, San Pedro Cholula demonstrates that environmental protection is not a passing fad, but a genuine priority. The combination of reforestation, environmental education, and inter-agency cooperation lays the groundwork for Zapotecas Hill to remain an ecological landmark in the state of Puebla. The announced mega-project will not only expand the forested area but also engage more citizens in the cause, strengthening the bond between the community and its natural heritage.
