1st Navarre Climate Week: program, allies, and key events

  • It will be held from October 20 to 26 with more than 50 activities throughout Navarre.

Navarra is preparing to experience the First Climate Week between October 20 and 26, 2025, an event promoted by the Department of Rural Development and Environment that seeks to mobilize the community in response to the weather emergency with proposals for awareness, dissemination and social participation.

The agenda brings together more than 50 activities Coordinated by around twenty entities: administrations, universities, professional associations, business associations and social groups, with workshops, debates, tours through urban and natural environments, exhibitions and recreational activities for all audiences.

Program and approach

The calendar is designed to bring scientific knowledge and the reality of climate change into everyday life, and challenge businesses, administrations and citizens to assume shared responsibilities.

The proposals address key challenges such as energy transition, forest management, ecological agriculture and responsible food, sustainable mobility, biodiversity, the water cycle, urban regeneration, and vermicomposting, among other fields of action.

The organization emphasizes that the event combines awareness, outreach and participation to accelerate changes in habits and promote the adaptation of the territory to increasingly demanding scenarios.

According to the Navarra Climate Change Office, social concern has increased significantly in recent years, and this week aims to channel that interest into participatory processes and informed decisions.

Alliances and participating entities

Among the actors involved are: seven local entities (Pamplona/Iruña, Elorz Valley, Egüés/Eguesibar Valley, Villava/Atarrabia, Pamplona, ​​Estella-Lizarra and Castejón Region Association), together with the two face-to-face universities (UPNA and UN) and two professional associations (Biologists and Technical Forestry Engineers).

Private entities such as the Gorosti Natural Sciences Society and the Proclade Yanapay Foundation; business associations such as ANET and ADEMAN; and public companies such as INTIA, Nasuvinsa and Nilsa, in addition to the Government of Navarre.

The Regional Executive highlights the importance of joining forces to promote the transformation of the productive fabric and social habits, expanding participation in future editions.

Institutional messages

Councillor José Mari Aierdi has stressed that climate change is a palpable reality which impacts the economic, social and cultural spheres, and which requires accelerating structural and behavioral changes.

For his part, the director of the Climate Change Office, Fernando Señas, refers to recent data that reveal a growing citizen concern, and invites us to translate it into effective awareness-raising and participation processes.

Milestones of the week

The program includes two important events: one Citizen session in the Parliament of Navarre on Tuesday the 21st to discuss climate change, and the final event of the LIFE NAdapta project in Baluarte on Friday the 24th, where project results and lessons learned will be shared.

In addition, throughout the week there will be training workshops, colloquia, informative tours and exhibitions with the aim of facilitating access to rigorous information and practical tools.

LIFE NAdapta: closing a cycle

Climate Week is celebrated around the closing of LIFE NAdapta, after eight years of work, a milestone with which Navarra became the first European Region in implementing an integrated climate change adaptation project.

This balance allows share results and experiences that can inspire new public policies, alliances and projects in territories with similar challenges.

UPNA adds workshops and outreach

La Public University of Navarra schedule two activities on Tuesday 21st: a workshop on vermicomposting and liquid extracts (Biocompas project) at the Josenea facilities (Lumbier), at 9:00 in Spanish and at 11:00 in Basque.

That afternoon, 16:30 - 18:30The Arrosadia campus will host a talk-colloquium on climate change and local action, with the participation of Rosa María Canals (IS-FOOD, UPNA) and the management of the Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory.

Municipal activities in Pamplona

Two workshops start on Monday: at 17:00, good practices at home to reduce energy consumption, and to 19:00, a workshop on Global Intervention Projects (GIP) as examples of energy rehabilitation and urban regeneration.

Tuesday and Wednesday, from 18:00 - 20:00 At the Environmental Education Museum, a climate breakout (escape room-style activity with boxes and puzzles) will be held in Spanish on Tuesday and in Basque on Wednesday.

The event will take place on Wednesday afternoon. Rehabilita-Tour through the Rochapea neighborhood, analyzing energy loss points with a thermographic camera and comparing renovated buildings with others without intervention.

On Thursday the Bizitxoko (18:00-20:00 PM) at the Environmental Education Museum, a space for self-repairing and tuning bicycles with expert support, with no prior registration required.

A meeting will be held on Saturday environmental volunteer day in the Mendillorri absorption forest (meeting point: Calle del Lago with Calle de las Aguas 79, at 10:00), with tree replacement and land care work, for people over 8 years old.

Municipal activities are Returns and require prior registration at 010 – 948 420 100, except for Bizitxoko, which is free access during the indicated hours.

Climate adaptation in urban environments

On October 22, an information day will be organized on adaptation measures adopted at the local level, with visits to climate shelters (Plazas Rojas, del Fuero, Ardantzea and Santo Domingo) to mitigate the heat island effect.

The route includes rain gardens and other sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS), such as those in Ribed Park, in front of the pelota court, and at the Fermín Tirapu roundabout, designed to manage episodes of heavy rain.
