The Majadahonda City Council is preparing a reduction in the 10% in the Waste Tax for those registered as residents and living alone in their homes. The measure is included in a package of tax credits which is advancing in its municipal processing.
This block of changes will be applied from 2026 and seeks to maintain a contained tax burden in the city, which is already among the lowest in the country for municipalities with more than 50.000 inhabitants. According to the City Council, the text incorporates neighborhood suggestions and allegations of the groups.
What changes in the Waste Rate
The main novelty sets a 10% discount for taxpayers who are the sole residents registered at their address. It will also apply to homes with a maximum of two registered people when at least one is 65 years of age or older or has a disability recognized.
In addition, it rises from 100 to 150euros the maximum limit that can be bonified by the direct debit of regular bills, remaining within the legal limit of 5% established by the regulations.
The Waste Tax is a state tax applied by all municipalities; in Majadahonda, access to these discounts requires being registered at the residence on which the benefit is requested.
Calendar and processing
The file will be put to a vote in the Plenary session of September 25, after having passed an initial approval in June. The entry into force of the modifications is planned for 2026, once the mandatory procedures have been completed.
During the public information period, the following have been incorporated: allegations of the groups and proposals submitted by taxpayers. The package includes the modification of five ordinances prosecutors, according to the City Council.
More changes to the tax package
On Tax on Economic Activities (IAE) the 10% bonus will be doubled 20 % for companies that install photovoltaic panels y recharging points for electric vehicles, both for self-consumption and in the premises where they operate.
These aids will be compatible with the bonuses for urban transport plans (up to 30%), with a joint cap of 45 %. It is also recalled the existence of current benefits such as the 50 % in the IBI for photovoltaic and the 15 % for vehicle recharging.
In the field of vehicles, it is maintained until the 75 % bonus in the IVTM for those with an environmental label “0”, “ECO” or “C”, reinforcing the approach Environmental of the package.
Large and single-parent families
The document also includes a 10 % on sale in the Waste Rate for socioeconomic reasons large and single-parent families registered in their habitual residence.
On IBI, the bonus for large families will go from 3 to 5 sections based on the cadastral value, respecting the legal maximum of the 90 % for the special category in the first two sections; the third will go up from 70% to 85%, the room of the 70% to 80% and the fifth of the 40% to 50%.
For large families of general category —most of them in Majadahonda—, the bonuses will increase between 10 and 20 points according to section. This benefit is compatible with the new reduction in the Waste Rate for large families.
Position of the local government
The team led by the mayor Lola Moreno He emphasizes that the goal is to ease the tax burden on residents and economic activity without losing tax competitiveness. The Councilor for Finance, Diego Lopez del Hierro, highlighted the willingness to listen to proposals and improve the measures with contributions citizens and politicians.
