Sustainable fashion fair in Plasencia

Plasencia is once again becoming a showcase for sustainable fashion and textile recycling with the second edition of Resotex, a cross-border event that will bring together designers and brands from both sides of the border. From September 26 to 28 , the city center will host fashion shows, practical workshops, and awareness-raising activities to introduce the circular economy to the general public.

The event is promoted by the Cáceres Provincial Council and funded by the European Interreg Spain-Portugal program. Activities will take place in Plaza Mayor , Plaza de la Catedral , Plaza del Mercado, the Las Claras Cultural Center, and the Santa María Complex. The event aims to combine textile tradition with current trends, focusing on responsible consumption and reuse.

Dates, venues and main agenda

The official opening will be on Friday at 12:30 in the Plaza Mayor, with the start of the exhibitors' displays and the opening of the first workshops and talks. Throughout the weekend, the program will extend to the historic spaces of the city center, with activities for all ages.

The Resotex fashion shows will take place in the Plaza de la Catedral : Saturday at 18:00 PM and Sunday at 12:00 PM, featuring a selection of collections that champion recycled materials , low-impact processes, and timeless designs. Raquel Sánchez Silva will host the Sunday show.

In addition, the schedule includes a traditional clothing parade on the eve of the event, linking the region's textile heritage with contemporary creation, reinforcing the connection between craftsmanship and sustainability in the heart of the city.

Figures and participation

The fair will bring together 14 designers from Spain and Portugal on the catwalks and 35 exhibitors showcasing projects, brands, and services related to responsible fashion. The program includes around 20 activities and will feature 21 speakers and specialists addressing challenges and solutions within the sector.

A total of 13 organizations from both countries have coordinated to make this edition possible, which has received an investment of €135.000 from the Provincial Council . Resotex's core idea is clear: to transform waste into a resource , promoting a circular economy throughout the textile value chain.

Activities, workshops and news

The program is completed with the Resotex Thematic Days at the Las Claras Cultural Center; the collective awareness action "Ensemble I" in the Plaza Mayor; and the "Designer for a Day" contest in the Plaza de la Catedral, a participatory proposal to bring the creative process closer to the public.

A Spanish-Portuguese meeting of the textile and fashion sector will also be held at the Santa María Complex, featuring dialogue between companies, artisans, and researchers. In the Market Square, "RE-Fashion: Swap Party and upcycling and alteration workshops" will take place, promoting the exchange of garments and creative repairs.

Among the awareness-raising activities, the " Give Your Clothes a Makeover " campaign and the "Clothes Mountain" installation in Cathedral Square encourage people to rethink their consumption habits. There will be information officers on hand with backpacks to explain how and where to recycle textiles, and a flash mob organized by the Provincial Council's dance school and the El Cantillo cultural association.

As an extension of the educational impact, a campaign in schools and a youth competition of short videos will be activated from September 29 to October 10 to promote more conscious purchasing habits and the reuse of clothes in everyday life.

Designers, craftsmanship and training

The presentation included names such as José Ramón García (Corsinología Atelier), Julián Sánchez (100 Colores 100) and Sara Sánchez (Sra. Sarita), who emphasized the importance of making small brands visible and the value of everyday gestures to reduce environmental impact.

In addition to the fashion shows, the public will find masterclasses and demonstrations of traditional textile crafts, as well as sewing and basic alteration workshops offered throughout the three days. The goal is for each participant to be able to extend the life of their clothing with simple techniques and learn to transform garments with flair.

An engine of change with a cross-border perspective

The organizers emphasize that Resotex is not just a showcase, but a driver of real change in how fashion is produced and consumed. Preserving textile traditions, connecting them with innovation, and addressing current environmental challenges are central themes of this edition.

The Plasencia City Council highlights the cultural and touristic component of the fair, which unites the local with the international and the traditional with the contemporary. The aim is to establish the event as a key fixture on the calendar, promoting responsible consumption and boosting the city's creative and business sectors.

With a diverse program, figures that support its growth and a practical approach for citizens, Resotex aspires to dress fashion differently: more ethical, circular and close , with the historic center of Plasencia as the setting for a weekend that vindicates the value of repairing, exchanging and designing with awareness.
