The Community of Madrid has given the green light to an agreement that allocates 1,5 millones de euros to household waste management in the field of Northwest Commonwealth, a key service that reaches tens of thousands of residents.
The agreement ensures the continuity of public support that, since 2019, has been reinforced with accumulated contributions from more than 7,6 million euros to promote sustainable treatment, improve processes and advance in the circular economy at the regional level.
Key points of the agreement
The measure approved by the government council establishes a direct grant to finance during the financial year 2025 collection, treatment and management services of the household waste generated in the 76 municipalities integrated into the Northwest Commonwealth.
With this mechanism, the regional government strengthens the entity's operational capacity and maintains financial coverage for essential expenses related to the household waste management in the zone.
Emissions coverage and volume increase
The agreement includes funding for the costs associated with the Emissions of greenhouse gases corresponding to the exercises 2024 and 2025, responding to current environmental and regulatory obligations.
In addition, the equipment includes a estimated increase of 5% in the volume of material to be treated, a forecast aligned with demographic evolution and with the increase in the generation of domestic waste in the northwest area.
Where will the waste be treated?
The treatment will take place in the Northwest plant and at the transfer stations of Collado Villalba, San Sebastián, The Molar y Lozoyuela, facilities that the Commonwealth has authorized for its use and exploitation.
This infrastructure network allows for optimization of collection, sorting and recyclingimproving logistical efficiency and facilitating the proper valorization of municipal waste.
Continuity of regional support
The Community of Madrid maintains its budgetary support to the Commonwealth since 2019, with contributions exceeding 7,6 million euros intended to strengthen equipment, processes and sustainable management instruments.
This continued support aims to consolidate stable and effective services in a territory with growing demand, guaranteeing resources for the urban waste treatment under environmental responsibility criteria.
Strategic framework and environmental objectives
The actions are integrated into the Sustainable Waste Management Strategy of the Community of Madrid, promoted by the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and the Interior, with clear goals: reduce waste, boost the reuse and increase rates recycling.
The approach aligns with European principles of circular economy, promoting a more efficient use of resources and a smaller environmental footprint in homes and municipal services.
Impact on the municipalities served
The 76 municipalities integrated into the Northwest Commonwealth have funding that aims to ensure continuity of serviceoperational stability and improved planning of the waste management throughout 2025.
The planned allocation and emissions cost coverage allow the entity to adjust its operations to legal requirements and the evolution of material flow, with a forecast of Greater volume to be discussed.
Inter-administrative collaboration facilitates coordination between facilities and municipalities, promoting best practices selective collection and a more agile response in the treatment chain.
The agreement strengthens the Commonwealth's capacity to serve its service area with criteria of sustainabilityproviding resources to meet environmental objectives and address a 5% more of planned waste.
