El Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has announced the assignment of 148,5 millones de euros of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) to impulse 199 projects dedicated to the integration of innovative renewables with energy storage systemsThis call, under the umbrella of the program RENOINN, incorporates cutting-edge initiatives agrivoltaics, floating photovoltaics and urban infrastructureIncluding collective self-consumption and renewable air conditioning.
With a wide territorial presence, the subsidized projects are distributed throughout Spain, although the regions of Catalonia (79 projects), Valencian Community (30), Castile and León (17) y Andalusia (13)The total sum of expected power amounts to 299,6 MW mainly of photovoltaic origin, with a capacity of 351,6 MWh storage.
The management of these aids falls to the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), which underlines the added value of the selected projects its innovative character, its integration into the territories and its impact on various productive sectorsThe program also emphasizes promote collective self-consumption and decarbonization of air conditioning through renewable heat pump.
Major commitment to agrivoltaics with storage
Of the Five incentive areas of the RENOINN program, the one who receives The largest provision is agrivoltaics with storage, with 77,1 million euros distributed among 62 projects. Valencia y Catalonia concentrate a significant part of these initiatives, many of them installed on tree crop farms such as olive groves and fruit orchards, where solar panels are located more than four meters high to ensure compatibility with agricultural activity.
The rest of the funds within this line go to projects of photovoltaic with intercropping and solar solutions on supports of two to four metersThe diversity of crops involved stands out: cereals, vines, citrus fruits, aromatic plants, horticultural plants, forage plants, tropical plants and mushrooms, among others.
The regulations require, when the promoter is not a farmer, the formalization of collaboration agreements between both parties. In addition, most projects include the installation of sensors for agricultural and meteorological monitoring, along with control plots to evaluate during five years the real impact and the energy and agronomic performance.
Renewables in urban and agricultural environments
Another strategic line is the 11 floating photovoltaic projects with storage, with aid that adds up 10,1 millones de eurosThese facilities are preferably located in agricultural irrigation ponds and they bet on it consumption and efficient integration into the agricultural environment.
El subprogram for renewable integration in anthropized infrastructures Choose 27 innovative initiatives, all of them with energy storage. They have received together 23,4 million in direct aid and will represent an aggregate investment of almost 56 millionThe proposals mostly include technologies photovoltaic and, to a lesser extent, hydroelectric, in locations such as wastewater treatment plants, landfills and service areas.
The total power of these facilities amounts to 45,6 MW, having a associated storage capacity of 133,2 MWh.
Collective self-consumption and protection of vulnerable consumers
One of the main goals of the RENOINN program is support collective self-consumption with storage y protect consumers in vulnerable situations. They have been reserved 18,2 millones de euros in grants for 67 projects outstanding in this field, which will allow nearly 4.000 vulnerable consumers access the energy benefits of renewables.
Most of these proposals are driven by city councils, provincial councils and local energy communities, providing different models of collective management and fair access. Among them, one stands out initiative in the Community of Madrid, who has obtained 8,4 millones de euros, the greatest support of the entire call, to implement 33,25 MW of renewable power and 17 MWh of storageThis plan will supply about 7.600 users, of which more than 2.700 are in a vulnerable situation, betting on a sustainable thermal energy network supported by a photovoltaic plant and collective self-consumption systems.
In addition, the last of the lines of help has focused on innovative renewable heat pump projects. A total of 19,6 millones de euros have been assigned to 32 files, where solutions predominate aerothermal, hydrothermal and geothermal energy. Among the beneficiaries are homeowners' associations and energy service companies, thus advancing in the clean electrification of thermal processes.
All actions funded by the RENOINN program must comply with the environmental criteria which establish the principle of not cause significant damage to the environment, in line with the demands of the NextGenEU funds channeled through the PRTR.
Thanks to this investment, we seek to transform the national energy sector and move towards a greater self-sufficiency, efficiency and inclusion in the use of advanced renewable energy with storage, serving both agricultural farms and urban and industrial environments and prioritizing social and environmental sustainability.
